FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the ICT permit a visa?

It is a combined work and residence permit. Most nationalities first receive an MVV entry visa and then collect the residence card in the Netherlands. Some nationalities do not need an MVV.

Can I extend the ICT permit?

No. It ends after 3 years, or 1 year for trainees. Many transferees switch to the highly skilled migrant permit or the EU Blue Card before it ends.

Does the Dutch company need to be a recognised sponsor?

It is not required, but recognition makes the procedure faster and lighter.

Can my family come with me?

Yes. Your partner and minor children can apply for residence, and your partner may work without a work permit.

Can I work in other EU countries?

Yes, within the company group. Short assignments of up to 90 days often need only a notification; longer ones need a permit in that country.

ICT or Highly Skilled Migrant?

If you stay employed by the company abroad, the ICT is usually the route. If the Dutch company hires you directly, it is the highly skilled migrant permit.
